Abelia are adaptable to a range of soil types and will tolerate periods of dry soil. Best growth is in moist, well-drained soils; benefits from mulch in the lansdcape. There are few problems with this plant. It is low maintenance, and isn't prone to pest problems. To maximize the red fall color, plant in full sun. Plants in too much shade will color up later in the fall and may lose their leaves before they turn bright red. Fertilize in early spring.
Sweet Emotion® abelia blooms on old wood in early spring - prune only immediately after blooming, if needed.
Larger and more upright than other abelias, Sweet Emotion should be given sufficient space to develop its graceful habit. For the longest bloom time, do not allow it to dry out in spring.
