Caryopteris is easy to grow and once established is largely trouble free. Very dark green foliage, with long-lasting deep blue blooms in late summer and well into autumn, Beyond Midnight is a stunning addition to your perennial beds. Useful as an edging, or in pollinator gardens, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are attracted to this compact Bluebeard. As an added bonus, deer and rabbits will stay away. Choose a sunny spot and plant in well-drained soil. Caryopteris can tolerate heat and a bit of drought. Caryopteris should be cut back hard, early each spring, when new growth begins to emerge on the stems.
Although it is not related to Spiraea some people call Bluebeard, “blue mist spirea”.
