'Incrediball®' is a mophead Hydrangea which possesses stout stems and massive white blooms, aging to a cool jade green in late summer. The largest blooms develop after the plant has become established - typically about 3 years after planting. This smooth Hydrangea will produce smaller blooms immediately, but you may expect larger blooms over each of the next 3 years. Enjoy the fabulous flowers of this North American native species every year, even in chilly USDA Zone 3! New flowers may even show through frost. This improved ‘Anabelle’ has strong, gently curving stems which won’t droop! 'Incrediball®' can grow in full sun in cooler climates - a minimum of 6 hours a day ensures the strongest stems, the biggest blooms, and the best flower color. However, the warmer your climate, the more shade they can take; afternoon shade is particularly beneficial in these areas. No deadheading is necessary on this vigorous, continuous bloomer. Care Tips - Growing:
We recommend full sun for smooth hydrangeas in the cooler end of its hardiness range; afternoon shade is a good idea in warmer climates, however. The flower color of smooth hydrangeas is not influenced by soil chemistry. Makes an excellent cut flower, both cut and dried.
Care Tips - Pruning:
Blooms on new wood - cut back by about one-third its total height in early spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge on the stems. Smooth hydrangeas may be cut back harder, however, this prevents woody cells from developing, prohibiting the plant from achieving its maximum stem strength.
Care Tips - Soil:
Grows well in most soils; avoid wet and poorly drained sites. Mulch is recommended in the landscape.
