Picea glauca

Spruce - White

$17.95

The White Spruce is an evergreen with dense foliage and needles that are blue-green in color. This conifer is a faster grower than many other spruces and is a great choice for heavier soils and clay. From a distance, you may mistake this it for a Blue Spruce since the color and shape of the younger tree looks somewhat similar. Commonly found in nature along streams and lakeshores, this spruce is more shade tolerant than most other spruces. Very popular as a Christmas tree, the White Spruce is also naturally deer resistant and provides high wildlife value.

Our plants come with extra large and fibrous root systems, ready to plant and flourish!

Care Tips

Care Tips - Growing:

Avoid applying fertilizer in fall as this may cause a new flush of growth that will not harden off for winter. A maintained mulch ring will slowly add nutrients to the soil, avoiding the need for fertilizer application. White Spruce can tolerate some shade, but this significantly reduces growth and density. For best results in a landscape setting, site this evergreen where it will receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. White Spruce struggles in areas of excessively high pollution or salt spray and should not be sited along busy streets.

Care Tips - Pruning:

Shearing is not necessary when the tree is healthy and properly watered.

Care Tips - Soil:

Tolerant of many soils except constantly wet. More tolerant of poorly drained and nutrient-deficient sites

Care Tips - Uses:

Windbreak or screen and works well where soil stabilization is needed. Specimen plant.
